Senior Pictures at Hoyt Sherman Place
If you’re looking for a senior picture location in Des Moines that’s a little different from the usual parks and fields, Hoyt Sherman Place is where it’s at! This historic theater is packed with character—ornate staircases, dramatic lighting, and a touch of old-school glamour that makes for some seriously cool photos. This location offers a one-of-a-kind setting for senior portraits that stand out.
Hoyt Sherman Place senior pictures are especially great for seniors who want a location with history, character, and dramatic style.
A Work of Art Among the Artwork
The Hoyt Sherman Art Gallery creates a museum-like setting that makes every shot feel sophisticated and artistic. Surrounded by gold-framed paintings and warm lighting, this space is perfect for capturing classic, high-end senior portraits in Des Moines. The combination of historic charm and soft elegance makes for a truly one-of-a-kind senior session.
A stunning gown, timeless artwork, and a bold, self-assured pose create a portrait that feels straight out of an editorial spread.
Taking Center Stage
What better way to celebrate senior year than stepping into the spotlight? The Hoyt Sherman stage is one of the best senior photo locations in Des Moines, especially for those who love music, theater, or performing arts.
To create a true on-stage feel, I use backlighting to mimic real stage lights, giving your hair a soft glow. The result? A cinematic, show-stopping senior portrait that feels like your big moment. For performers, this is the ultimate dream spot for senior pictures!
Step Outside for Another Look
The variety at Hoyt Sherman Place doesn’t stop when you step outside. The brick exterior, mature trees, black railings and architectural details create even more options for senior pictures without traveling to another location.
It’s an easy way to get a completely different look within the same session.
Vintage Charm with a Modern Edge
A high school senior photo session should reflect personality, style, and confidence. The Victorian-style furniture in the historic mansion adds a regal, editorial touch that blends old-world charm with a modern, fashion-forward feel.
We were lucky to capture some amazing sunlight filtering through the windows in this room. Whether seated on an antique couch or framed against elegant decor, this setting creates a timeless look that never goes out of style.
