Ideas for Waukee Iowa Senior Pictures

If you’re a senior from Waukee or Waukee Northwest, don’t overlook the unique senior photo locations right in your own community.

Downtown Des Moines locations like The State Capitol, East Village, Water Works Park, and Court Avenue often get all the attention—but Waukee has its own mix of photo-worthy spots that are fun and full of character. From murals and trails to school stadiums and hidden green spaces, there’s a lot to work with right here at home.

From Waukee to Ankeny and everywhere in between, I’m always scouting new creative spots for senior pictures.

Historic Triangle Park is right in the center of Waukee. It has small-town charm. During the summer, this area is also home to the Waukee Farmers Market, which brings even more energy and color to the neighborhood. Whether we’re photographing in the off-hours or want to include that vibrant local vibe in your session, the Triangle area gives us a lot to work with.

Right next to the park is a stretch of colorful murals—guitars, bikes, dartboards, ice cream cones—each one bright and full of personality. The murals add a fun, modern contrast to the classic feel of the park and work well if you’re looking for something creative, casual, and a little different.

Waukee Iowa senior pictures offer a mix of backdrops that are just as creative and convenient as the more well-known Des Moines locations.

Raccoon River Valley Trail

The Raccoon River Valley Trail starts right here in Waukee, and the trailhead off Hickman Road is easy to access and full of natural beauty. Tall grasses, wide-open skies, and tree-lined paths make this trail a great option for seniors who love the outdoors or just want something quiet and simple.

Right off the trail, the Railroad Pergola offers a more graphic, modern look. The tiled columns and LED lighting are part of a public art installation that honors Waukee’s rail history—and the structure adds striking lines and unique detail to your gallery.

Centennial Park in Waukee

Centennial Park is one of the most versatile locations in town. With big trees, open fields, and a quiet pond, it offers plenty of variety without feeling overly styled. We can shoot near the walking paths, fences, or tucked-away corners—perfect for photos that feel relaxed and natural.

Stadiums, Stages, and School Grounds

For a lot of seniors, the most meaningful photos happen on familiar ground—like the football field, the stage, or even the band room. Whether you attend Waukee High School or Waukee Northwest, we can shoot on campus to reflect where you’ve spent your time and built your story.

That might mean photos in Waukee Stadium, outside Northwest High’s Fieldhouse, or on the stage at the Prairieview Theater Arts Center.

From stadium bleachers and goalposts to brick walls and theater lighting, your school grounds offer way more than just a backdrop—they help tell your version of senior year.

Sugar Creek Golf Course

Looking for something peaceful or scenic? Sugar Creek Golf Course offers wide views, manicured greens, and quiet paths that work especially well for seniors who want a calm, open look. If you’re a golfer—or just want a location that feels fresh and open—it’s a great option.

Neighborhood Trails

Waukee’s neighborhoods are also full of hidden gems: small wooden bridges, walking paths, and tree-lined trails that feel personal and natural. These make for an easygoing session with lots of variety and charm. This photo was taken in a West Des Moines park, but Waukee has many similar options.

Don’t overlook what’s in your own backyard—West Des Moines has plenty of standout senior photo spots.

Let’s Plan Your Senior Photos in Waukee

Waukee has so many different ways to personalize your session. Bring your marching band hat from Waukee Northwest Wolves or your letter jacket from the Waukee Warriors. Want to include your instrument, favorite outfit, or something tied to your hobbies? Let’s make it happen.
